Local media reported that Russian authorities have sent well-known religious “icons and images” to the front line in Ukraine, to boost soldiers’ low morale.
Ahead of imminent counterattacks in Ukraine, which are a source of growing concern for Moscow, footage broadcast by state media showed soldiers kissing replica “Achiropoyta icons” to bring themselves good luck.
What are “Achyropoieta icons”?
• Christian religious pictures and paintings believed in Russia to have appeared thanks to a miracle, without the help of humans.
• These icons Famous is usually painted on a wooden panel, but it may be engraved on other media such as Mosaic, painted tiles and canvas.
Russia and Ukraine… a war of marches and assurances to confront it
Accompanying the icon towards the front, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church said the icon, which was said to have been blessed by Patriarch Kirill, will be taken on a tour of the fighting Russian units.
“The command of the Russian army decided to march in order to pass it from one unit to another,” said the representative of the Russian Orthodox Church, Archpriest Vyacheslav.
“We will hand it over to every unit, whether it’s in the front line or in the back line, big or small, regardless,” he added.
The war that began in February 2022 is intensifying, with no prospect of ending it, despite international attempts to contain the conflict.
On Tuesday, Moscow residents reported hearing explosions, and later the Ministry of Defense stated that 8 drones were launched towards the Russian capital, in what it called a “terrorist attack by the Kiev regime.”
These attacks come following a wave of devastating missiles and drones launched by Russia to target Kiev.
