Russian attacks in southern Ukraine have killed at least four people in the city of Kherson within 24 hours, according to Ukrainian sources. Nine more people were injured, regional governor Oleksander Prokudin said on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Air Force said it had intercepted explosive drones launched by Russia.
The Russian army bombed “the city center of Kherson” during the night, Produkin said on the Telegram online service. According to him, “a shell hit a residential building.” An 87-year-old and his 81-year-old wife were killed. Another resident suffered head trauma and leg injuries as a result of the explosion.
Rescue workers also discovered a body while clearing rubble elsewhere in Kherson city center, the governor said. Within 24 hours, the Russian attacks on Kherson left “at least four dead and nine injured, including a child.”
“The Russian army hit residential areas in the region, medical facilities, an educational institution and important infrastructure in Kherson,” Produkin said. He did not provide any further information on the extent of the property damage.
Kherson lies on the Dnipro River and has been the target of Russian attacks almost daily since the city was recaptured by Ukrainian troops in November 2022 following months of Russian occupation.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Air Force said on Sunday that it had intercepted 14 of 15 explosive drones launched by Russia during the night.
