Russian astronauts test a virtual reality helmet on the International Space Station

Russia – Scientists at Moscow State University intend to use a virtual reality helmet to study the human body in space.

A virtual reality helmet for astronauts that uses galvanic stimulation will be tested to evaluate their condition in Earth orbit and specifically on the International Space Station. This was stated by Viktor Sadovnichy, Rector of Moscow State University, whose university specialists developed the device.

He said in a speech he delivered at the international conference “Mathematics within the Constellation of Sciences” that galvanic stimulation and imitation are one of the most modern studies currently being conducted in the world. My students have noticed that many things in astronaut training can be done using the galvanic tradition by creating virtual reality. A group of our scientists is developing a helmet that will be used on an upcoming space flight to the International Space Station. “It will be tested by Russian astronauts.”

Victor Sadovnici explained that special devices will be linked to the helmet to create virtual reality. With its help, he plans, in particular, to study what happens with the astronaut’s body, including with his vestibular apparatus.

It is noteworthy that the international scientific conference “Mathematics within the Constellation of Sciences” is being held at Moscow State University on the occasion of the 85th birthday of the President of Moscow State University, Viktor Sadovnichy, who will be celebrated on April 3.
