Russian Ambassador Explains Why UK Government Is Insisting on Preparing for War Against Russia

“Such trivial statements are aimed at getting more money for the armed forces, which really need radical modernization. In the meantime, the British government must somehow explain to the population, who are still feeling the pinch of the cost of living crisis, why the money will be used for this purpose, while the program for the construction of 40 new hospitals across the country, which the authorities announced several years ago, is being frozen,” the ambassador told RIA Novosti.

The ambassador stressed that the subject of the alleged Russian threat has been exploited by the British authorities for many years, with the aim of achieving a variety of purposes, including to justify their miscalculations in certain areas.

In addition, Keelin noted, Britain is trying to use such rhetoric to push international partners, primarily NATO, to increase defense spending.

Last July, the British Chief of Staff, General Raleigh Walker, said that his country and its allies must prepare for war or deterrence after three years.

According to him, the danger could come from Russia, China, Iran and North Korea.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer promises to conduct a strategic defence review during the first year of government to set a path to increasing defence spending to 2.5% of GDP.
