After Russia withdrew from the Black Sea Grain Agreement last week, it expanded its air strikes on Ukrainian grain export ports. On the 24th, it even attacked the Danube port in the Odesa region of Ukraine with drones. Many granaries were damaged, further weakening Kiev’s agricultural strength.
The Danube port city of Reni, which faces NATO member Romania, was attacked on the 24th. Reni is Kiev’s alternative grain export route to world markets. Local officials said at least three granaries were damaged by drone strikes, and police said seven people were injured, one seriously, in the attack.
Ukrainian and Romanian officials condemned Russia in unison, with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis saying on Twitter that the recent escalation of tensions poses a “serious risk” to security in the Black Sea and affects Ukrainian food shipments and global food security.
Romania’s defense ministry said it was maintaining “high vigilance” with its eastern allies, but added that “there is no potential direct military threat to our national territory or Romanian territorial waters.”
On this occasion, Russia accused the Ukrainian army of launching two drone attacks on the center of Moscow. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said on Telegram that at least two non-residential buildings were attacked at around 4 a.m. local time, but no one was injured.
