A Russian attack in Ukraine killed at least six people on Friday, according to local reports. The country’s eastern Kharkiv region reported four deaths, including a 14-year-old girl. Two people died in the neighboring Samui region. Russia said one civilian was killed in Ukrainian shelling of the city and Belgorod region.

Belgorod Region Governor Vyacheslav Gradkov announced that seven more people were injured. Ukraine initially made no statement. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called for permission to launch attacks on Russian territory. Russian troops said they had captured three more villages in eastern Ukraine.

According to official sources, a guided aerial bomb hit a 12-story residential building in Kharkiv, causing part of the building to collapse. According to junta governor Oleh Synjehubov, 28 people were also injured. This number is still likely to increase. . The city of Kharkiv, which is only about 30 kilometers away from the Russian border, has been the target of Russian attacks many times. When Kremlin Chairman Vladimir Putin ordered a war of aggression, Russian troops also tried and failed to capture Kharkov.

Eight people were said to have been injured in Samui. Among them were several children, according to authorities. The local prosecutor’s office spoke of “methods of war prohibited by international law”. About 21,000 people have been evacuated from the Sumui region since August 9 due to Russian air strikes. People were asked to stay home and close their windows on Friday.

Sumy borders Russia’s Kursk region, where Ukraine launched a military offensive in August. One of the goals of the offensive is to create a buffer zone on Russian territory to protect the population from attack. Moscow responded with airstrikes.

“Such a strike would not have happened if our defense forces had the opportunity to destroy stationed Russian military aircraft,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a cable after the Kharkiv attack. Given the destruction situation, he once again called on the West to drop a large number of weapons on targets in Russia.

Zelensky said it was crucial to strengthen air defense defenses. Kiev says that in order to protect its city, Russia’s attack potential must also be destroyed. This would require attacking military airfields deep in Russia where bombers and fighter jets are stationed. Zelensky is now demanding on an almost daily basis that the West release weapons used in attacks on Russian soil. There are currently restrictions on this. These requirements are particularly specific to Germany. Unlike similar weapons systems in the UK or France, the German Taurus cruise missile can also reach Moscow. Russian President Vladimir Putin said in June that using German missiles to attack targets in Russia would damage relations between Germany and Russia. Ukraine has also used its own drones and missiles in attacks. For two and a half years, the country has been fending off Russia’s aggressive war with Western military aid.

Nepropetrovsk Oblast Governor Sergei Lysak said three women were injured in the gunfire and houses and power lines were damaged. In Kherson, a man was injured in the head after Russian shelling, Roman Mrochko, head of the Kherson Military Administration, said. A factory south of Poltava in central Ukraine was also hit in the Russian attack. Governor Philippe Pronin said there were no casualties. Ukrainian Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk said his troops shot down 12 Shahed drones during the night. Four other drones crashed without hitting their targets, he added.

The Russian Defense Ministry announced the seizure of three more towns in eastern Ukraine in a weekly report. The Russian Defense Ministry said Russian troops had taken control of Novozhelana and Kostian Tinivka in the Donetsk region and Sinkievka in the Kharkov region.

The village of Novoschelanne is located about 20 kilometers southeast of the strategically important city of Pokrovsk, where Russian armed forces have been advancing steadily for weeks. Ukrainian Army Chief of Staff Alexander Silsky said on Friday that the situation around Pokrovsk was currently “the most difficult” for Ukraine’s armed forces. “The enemy is trying to break through our defenses. But so far, the attack has been repelled,” Silski said during a video conference.
