“Russian Actor Vladimir Mashkov Charged by Ukraine for Justification of Aggression: Latest Updates and Analysis”

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) charged (reported suspicion) Russian actor Vladimir Mashkov. From a press release on the website of the SBU, it follows that three criminal cases have been opened against the actor: encroachment on territorial integrity (part 2 of article 110), justification of Russian aggression against Ukraine (part 1 and part 3 of article 436-2) , violation of the procedure for entering the territories of Ukraine occupied by Russian forces (parts 1 and 2 of article 332-1).

According to the SBU, Vladimir Mashkov “is part of the inner circle of the top military-political leadership” of Russia, and after the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine, he publicly spoke in support of Russian forces during “mass events” with President Vladimir Putin.

In addition, according to the SBU, in his social networks, Vladimir Mashkov regularly “glorifies the war crimes” of the Russian forces in Ukraine. In numerous interviews, the intelligence service said, the actor called for the entry of four regions – the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions – into Russia.

The SBU also accused Mr. Mashkov of participating in “propaganda activities” in support of a special military operation that was carried out on the territory of Crimea and the eastern regions of Ukraine.

Vladimir Mashkov – People’s Artist of the Russian Federation. Since 2018, he has been a member of the Presidential Council for Culture and Art. In the same year, he became artistic director of the Oleg Tabakov Moscow Theatre. On March 18, 2022, Mr. Mashkov took part in a rally-concert in Luzhniki in honor of the annexation of Crimea. On September 23, he performed at the concert “We Don’t Leave Our Own”, dedicated to the accession of new regions to Russia.
