Russia withdraws from the World Tourism Organization June 10, 2022 – Society – Saint Petersburg News

The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is one of the many agencies of the United Nations. It exists on the money of participants (Member States) and various contributions from associated partners. Russia also paid for membership.

According to the UNWTO website, 160 countries and territories of the world are its permanent members. At the same time, many countries left it earlier. Ireland has not joined the UNWTO. The US left the UNWTO in 1995. Belgium and Greenland withdrew from the UNWTO in 1997. The UK in 2009, Canada left the organization in 2012 and Australia in 2015.

The organization is also mainly engaged in supporting various online courses and academies for workers and officials from the tourism sector on various issues, issuing recommendations and methodological principles on a wide range of topics. Also among the UNWTO activities is the exchange of experience at conferences and seminars, etc.
