Russian President Vladimir Putin revealed on Wednesday that Russian scientists are in the final stages of developing cancer vaccines, with the possibility of them being available to patients in the near future, according to Reuters reports.
During a forum in Moscow on future technologies, Putin shared in a television broadcast that “we have come very close to creating the so-called cancer vaccines and immunomodulatory drugs of a new generation.” However, he did not provide details on the specific cancer types these vaccines would target or how they work.
Meanwhile, various countries and companies, including the United Kingdom in collaboration with BioNTech, based in Germany, are working on personalized cancer treatments. In addition, pharmaceutical companies such as Moderna and Merck & Co are developing an experimental cancer vaccine that, according to preliminary studies, has been shown to reduce the chance of recurrence or death from melanoma by half following three years of treatment.
