In an interview for Newsweek magazine, Antonov asserted that “Western states are directly involved in current events as they continue to supply Ukraine with arms and ammunition.”

The Russian diplomat said that this situation “encourages further bloodshed.”

In a new package of sanctions against the government of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) announced last Thursday that it plans to deliver new weapons to Ukraine.

For the Russian ambassador, these sanctions are dangerous and provocative, and he highlighted the probability that this will lead to a confrontation between the US and Russia.

Antonov recalled that Russia began, on February 24, a special operation to demilitarize and denazify the Donbas, in eastern Ukraine, due to the inability of the kyiv government to negotiate and its unwillingness to stop the bloodshed in that region, which is mostly populated by Russian speakers.
