Russia warns of “unimaginable consequences” after Zelensky’s US visit

Russia’s ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, criticized the United States of America for the fact that the Biden administration received Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Washington on a visit and announced new US support for Kyiv. The diplomat recalled the warnings that the Kremlin had already made about Zelensky’s trip to the US.

Antonov accused, quoted by the TASS agency, Washington’s “provocative actions” and considered, regarding the sending of Patriot missiles to Ukraine, that the Ukrainians “do not have specialists to work with them”. “So, are you going to turn to American experts? Or citizens of another NATO country? “, continued the ambassador, threatening: “I think everyone perfectly understands the fate that the people who will work with these missiles can face.”

The consequences of the “escalation” that the “provocative actions” of the USA can have “are not even imaginable”, considered Antonov, guaranteeing that the Kremlin has “repeatedly” tried to “appeal to common sense”.

On Wednesday, Volodymyr Zelensky was received in Washington by the US government, who promised a support package for Kyiv of 1.75 billion euros.

The military offensive launched on February 24 by Russia in Ukraine has already resulted in the flight of more than 14 million people, of which 6.5 million are internally displaced and more than 7.8 million have fled to European countries, according to the most recent UN data.

At the moment, 17.7 million Ukrainians are in need of humanitarian aid and 9.3 million are in need of food aid and shelter.

The Russian invasion – justified by the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, with the need to “denazify” and demilitarize Ukraine for Russia’s security – was condemned by the international community in general, which has responded by sending arms to Ukraine and imposing it on Russia of political and economic sanctions.
