Russia uses its veto to prevent the Security Council from condemning the attack on Ukraine .. and the UAE, China and India refrain

Atlanta, USA (CNN) – Russia on Friday used its veto to block a UN Security Council resolution condemning its attack on Ukraine.

During the session, which was held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, 11 countries voted in favor of the condemnation resolution once morest one vote once morest it, and 3 countries abstained, namely China, India and the United Arab Emirates.

The Ambassador of India called for an end to the violence, as well as all members of the Security Council to respect the principles of the United Nations, and said that diplomacy must be returned.

UAE Ambassador Lana Zaki Nusseibeh did not directly address the reason for her abstention, saying that “the UAE supports the cessation of violence, the resumption of dialogue and the dispatch of humanitarian aid.”

The Chinese ambassador said any Security Council action “should truly defuse the crisis, rather than add fuel to the fire.”

It is noteworthy that Russia, a permanent member of the Security Council, occupies this month the position of the Council’s president.
