(Rome = Yonhap News) Correspondent Shin Chang-yong = Human rights officers of Russia and Ukraine met in Turkey on the 11th (local time) and agreed on a prisoner exchange.

According to Archyde.com, Russian human rights commissioner Tatyana Moskhalkova said that following meeting with Ukrainian human rights commissioner Dmitro Rubinets in Ankara, the capital of Turkey, they agreed to exchange 40 prisoners of war.

The two set up a separate negotiating table at a hotel in Ankara, where the Ombudsman International Conference was held, and talked for regarding 40 minutes over the prisoner exchange issue.

The news agency said that the two will visit the presidential palace in Ankara followingwards to meet President Recep Tayyip Erdogan Turkiye.

Russia and Ukraine have been steadily exchanging prisoners during the 11th month of the war.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a speech to parliament last December that a total of 1,456 prisoners of war had been released through a prisoner exchange with Russia since the outbreak of the war.
