Russia stopped using the word “peace” in the May Day slogan

In Russia, during official events dedicated to the celebration of May 1, they almost stopped using the word “peace,” which for decades was part of the most famous May Day slogan – “Peace. Labor. May.” On this converted attention of several media and telegram channels, including Sota, “That’s it!” and “We can explain.”

It is noted that at the official event in Vladivostok, local authorities used the slogans “Labor is cool!” and “Feast of Spring and Labor!” The word “peace” was omitted at the May Day rally-concert in Yekaterinburg, at the rally in Krasnoyarsk and the procession in Ulyanovsk. In St. Petersburg, the May Day slogan, known since Soviet times, was replaced with “Spring, Labor and Petersburg.”

According to the telegram channel “ChTD”, the refusal of the word “peace” during official May Day events was sanctioned at the federal level. Journalists noted that the word was removed from holiday posts on social networks by the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office and the Investigative Committee, as well as the main federal television channels – Channel One and VGTRK.

In the spring of 2022, almost immediately after the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, an article about the so-called discrediting of the actions of the Russian army appeared in the Russian criminal and administrative codes. According to it, thousands of people were subjected to repression for their anti-war positions or reports of war crimes by Russian military personnel. There are known cases where courts have found citizens guilty of “discrediting” citizens for the single word “peace” on T-shirts, badges or posters.
