According to major foreign media such as CNN in the US, on the 29th, Deputy Defense Minister Aleksandr Fomin said, “We will drastically reduce military activities in Kiiu and Chernivu. This measure will be implemented immediately.” Vice Minister Po Min explained the significance of the reduction in military activity as “a measure to increase mutual trust and create the need for further negotiations.”
The Ukrainian side also confirmed that Russian military activity near Kiiu was fading. Brigadier General Kirillo Budanov, commander of Ukrainian military intelligence, said: “The operation of Russian forces near Kiiu has failed and it is now impossible for Russian forces to overthrow the Ukrainian government.” “President Putin is focusing on the southern and eastern fronts (not the capital),” he added.
Earlier on the same day, representatives of Russia and Ukraine held the fifth peace negotiations in Istanbul, Turkey. “The negotiations were going constructively,” said Vladimir Medinsky, an adviser to the president, the head of the Russian side, at a press conference following the talks.
