Russian forces have improved their positions and occupied more favorable heights and positions in various sectors of the Ukrainian front, and repelled 19 counterattacks in the last day, the Russian Defense Ministry reported in its daily war report on Sunday.
“Units of the Zapad (West) military group have improved their tactical positions” during their battles against three motorized brigades and one of the Ukrainian territorial defense brigade in the Kharkiv, Luhansk and Donetsk regions, the military department said on Telegram.
In this sector of the front, the Russians repelled five counterattacks by a motorized brigade and another brigade of the Ukrainian National Guard, causing up to 420 casualties and destroying two tanks and eight artillery pieces, including a self-propelled one, according to the source.
The Southern military group “occupied more favourable heights and positions” and inflicted around 560 casualties on the enemy when facing 13 Ukrainian brigades in the Donetsk region, where they continue to approach Chasiv Yar and the strategic logistics hub of Pokrovsk.
The Tsentr (Center) military group also continued its advance and repelled 11 counterattacks by 10 Ukrainian brigades, in battles that resulted in up to 445 casualties of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, according to Russian sources.
In turn, “units of the Vostok (Eastern) military group improved their positions on the front line” and attacked the forces of two motorized brigades and one of the Ukrainian territorial defense in several localities in the Donetsk and Zaporizhia regions.
In this sector of the front, Russian soldiers repelled three counterattacks, causing up to 145 casualties among Ukrainian troops and destroying one tank, 12 vehicles and two howitzers, one American-made M777 and one British FH-70.
Russian forces have maintained their pressure in eastern Ukraine despite the Ukrainian army’s incursion into the Russian border region of Kursk, where kyiv claims to have taken a hundred towns, and whose objective was to force the Russian command to withdraw troops from the Ukrainian front to secure its border.
Zelensky: Russia has dropped 900 bombs this week
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Sunday that Russia had launched 900 guided aerial bombs, 400 Shahed-type kamikaze drones and nearly 30 missiles of various types against Ukraine over the past week.
“We need to strengthen our capabilities to better protect lives and security. Ukraine needs long-range weapons under conditions,” he said, referring to kyiv’s demand that its allies allow it to use the long-range weapons they provide against targets on Russian soil.

Kherson
In the southern Kherson region, two men aged 51 and 86 have been hospitalised after being injured by explosives dropped from a drone, said the head of the regional military administration, Roman Mrochko.
In kyiv, air defenses shot down several drones, the regional administration announced.
There were no casualties, but fragments of the intercepted devices caused fires in two districts of the region, which have already been extinguished, according to the source, as well as damage to a private home.
The governor of Poltava (centre), Filip Pronin, reported damage to the energy infrastructure in one of the districts of the region.
“Luckily there were no casualties. However, there is damage to infrastructure in one area of the region,” he said on Telegram, adding that around a hundred consumers had been left without electricity.
In the early hours of the morning, the governor of Sumi (northeast) had also announced a bombing of electrical installations in the municipality of Shotski, while late on Saturday, a bombing of the city of Kharkiv (northeast) left twenty people injured, including three minors, and caused damage to seven blocks of flats.
