Russia responds to Washington’s message on Ukraine tensions

The US government has received a written response from Russia to Washington’s proposals to reduce tension with Ukraine. On Monday evening, the US State Department confirmed that it had received written follow-up from Russia, but did not reveal its content.

“It would be counterproductive to negotiate in public, so we will leave it to Russia if it wants to discuss its response,” a State Department spokeswoman said, adding that the United States would continue to consult closely with its allies and partners, including Ukraine.

Last week, the US government sent a letter to Russia in response to Moscow’s concerns regarding security in Europe.

It was not made public, but according to US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, it included a rejection of Russian demands that NATO stick to it.
to end its expansion, as well as what he described as positive proposals to be pursued. Blinken is scheduled to speak to his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, on Tuesday.
