Russian troops have repelled six Ukrainian attacks in the Kursk region on Saturday, which has been the scene of an offensive by kyiv forces since June 6, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Saturday.
“Units of the Northern Group of Troops repelled, with the support of military aviation and artillery fire, six attacks by enemy assault groups,” the military statement published on Telegram said.
The Russian military command said its forces thwarted attempts by Ukrainian troops to advance towards the towns of Korenovo and Malaya Loknya, located about 20 and 15 kilometers respectively from the border with Ukraine.
In these actions, the Ministry of Defense added, Ukrainian troops lost up to 30 soldiers, including dead and wounded, two armored vehicles, two cars and one of their soldiers was taken prisoner.
According to kyiv, its forces control around 1.200 towns and more than XNUMX square kilometres of territory in the Kursk region.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Monday that it was difficult to judge the objectives of the Ukrainian attack on the Kursk region, but stressed that it was “naive” to believe that a territory swap was possible.
“We are not negotiating on our territory,” Lavrov said in remarks to Russian television channel RT.
