Russia ranks first among suppliers of a wide range of basic materials to China

During the meeting of the Russian-Chinese Joint Committee in Moscow today, on the eve of the meeting of the two countries’ prime ministers, Chernyshenko called for stimulating bilateral trade to continue its growth this year at last year’s rates.

For his part, Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng announced that Russia has become the largest supplier of oil, gas, timber and potash fertilizers to China.

“Russia and China are committed to implementing the important understandings reached by the leaders of the two countries, bilateral trade is developing dynamically, and in the first half of the year, bilateral trade grew by 1.6%, and Russia has become the largest supplier of crude oil, natural gas, timber and potash fertilizers to China,” he said.

He pointed out that Moscow and Beijing discussed simplifying trade procedures between China and the Eurasian Economic Union, which includes Russia and four countries, and that positive progress was achieved in the talks to amend the agreement on the protection and promotion of investments.

Trade volume between China and Russia in the first half of this year rose 1.8 percent compared with the same period last year, reaching $116.87 billion, according to data from Chinese customs.

In the first seven months of 2024, Russia supplied China with 62.577 million tons of crude oil worth $37.341 billion, an increase of 3.17% over the same period last year 2023.

Last year, the Russian government expected the volume of trade between Russia and China to rise to $300 billion by the end of 2030.
