The Russian Kremlin (Presidential Palace) said on the 28th (local time) that it was concerned regarding US President Joe Biden’s remarks regarding Russian President Vladimir Putin.
President Biden called Putin a “slaughterer” in connection with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and even made remarks suggesting a regime change.
Kremlin spokeswoman Dmitry Peskov said at a briefing today that Biden’s remarks were “definitely worrisome” and that “we will continue to closely monitor the comments of the President of the United States.”
During a visit to Poland last weekend, President Biden criticized Putin as a ‘slaughterer’ and remarked that “a man like this should not remain in power.”
Some analysts say that Biden’s remarks are in fact suggesting the ouster of Putin.
The White House explained that Biden’s words meant that Putin should not be allowed to exercise power over a neighboring country or region, and that he was not talking regarding regime change in Russia.
Biden has previously criticized Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, calling Russian President Putin a “war criminal”, a “dictator” and a “thug”.
French President Emmanuel Macron has expressed concern that words or actions should not escalate tensions in Ukraine.
President Richard Haas, president of the American Foreign Relations Association (CF), tweeted, “President Biden’s comments make difficult situations more difficult.”
