Russia.. Part of the head of the statue of the goddess of beauty “Aphrodite” was found in Crimea

This was stated by Nikolai Vinokurov, head of the archaeological expedition and professor of the Department of History of the Ancient World and the Middle Ages at Moscow State Pedagogical University.

“Most likely, a fragment of the head of the goddess Aphrodite dates back to the late Archaic period. The artifact was discovered in a layer above the residential horizon of the second half of the 3rd century AD. It is distinguished by its elegant design and very high quality. It was made in a workshop that existed at that time in Artesia,” Vinokourov noted.

The archaeologist assumed that the discovery could confirm the view that there was a cult of Aphrodite among the inhabitants of the artesian settlement, which, apparently, was in third place among the worshiped deities after the goddess of fertility Demeter and the mother of the gods Cybele.

Earlier, Vinokurov told TASS that archaeologists and volunteers of the archaeological expedition of the artesian settlement found in Crimea confirmation of the ancient origin of the ancient artesian settlement, as part of an ancient vessel for mixing wine with water was discovered. This is the oldest ancient find at the site of the artesian settlement, dating back to the 7th-6th centuries BC. Coins dating from antiquity to the Middle Ages were also discovered and correspond to all stages of the development of the settlement.

It is noteworthy that the Artesian settlement is located in the Leninsky district of the Republic of Crimea. It is a large fortress with a complex design of residential areas and defensive fortifications at different times. The settlement was one of the advanced positions of the Bosporus fortification system, protecting the important centers of the Bosporus Kingdom from nomads who constantly attacked the Crimean Peninsula from the north.
