Russia Joins the World Nomad Games with a Collaborative National Team

For the first time, Russia will be represented at the Games by a unified team of 172 athletes in 21 sports, competing under the national flag of their country. Previously, teams from republics and regions of the Russian Federation participated in these competitions.

The opening ceremony was attended by the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, the Governor of the People’s Assembly of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and the Governor of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov.

“Kazakhstan has reminded the world what world sport should be: non-politicized, open to all and promoting sport, not perversion,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented on Sunday’s opening ceremony.

The organizers revealed that “Meeting the Great Steppe” is the slogan for this edition of the Games, which will attract more than 100,000 tourists.
In the coming days, 21 competitions will be held, such as archery, wrestling, martial arts and tug-of-war, which will result in 97 medals being awarded, and the total prize money will be (about 46 million rubles).

There will also be horse competitions, which are very popular in Central Asia, such as Kokbar and Bokashi.

The organizers pointed out that for the first time athletes from countries such as Venezuela, Peru, the Dominican Republic, Ireland and Ethiopia will participate in these games.

The World Nomad Games is an international project that aims to revive and preserve the culture of the nomadic Bedouin civilization.
The first World Nomad Games were held in Kyrgyzstan on the shores of Lake Issyk-Kul, in the city of Cholpon-Ata, in 2014 with 500 participants.

Kyrgyzstan continued to host the event three times in 2014, 2016 and 2018, with the fourth edition to be held in 2022 in the Turkish city of Iznik.
