Russia is putting Estonia’s Prime Minister Kallas on a wanted list

Russia has put Estonia’s Prime Minister Kaja Kallas on a wanted list. This emerges from a note that was posted on the Moscow Interior Ministry website on Tuesday. Accordingly, Kallas is wanted in Russia for “a criminal matter” – no further details were given.

The “Kyiv Post” reports that it is the first time in history that a search is being carried out for a head of government. The Estonian Prime Minister is the leader of the liberal Estonian Reform Party and a former member of the European Parliament from the Alde group.

Guest at the Opera Ball

Kallas was in Vienna last week and attended the Opera Ball as a guest of Chancellor Karl Nehammer (ÖVP). As a result of the Russian offensive in Ukraine, which has been going on for two years, relations between Moscow and the Baltic states are extremely tense. Kallas is one of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s harshest critics. She has been at the head of the government in Estonia since 2021.

During her visit to Vienna, Kallas called for greater support for Ukraine. Estonia believes in a Ukrainian victory, said Kallas. In order to make this possible, Ukraine must be supported “as long as it takes and with as much as needed.” The so-called Ramstein coalition of Ukraine supporting countries is many times stronger than Russia. If Ukraine supporters support Kiev with 0.25 percent of their economic output, “this might be the critical point.” Russia must also be further isolated from international organizations, Kallas demanded. In addition, it is time to use frozen Russian assets to rebuild Ukraine.

Kallas also called on Europeans to invest more in their defense during a visit to Vienna on Thursday evening. “To deter and prevent war in Europe, we must be credible and strong,” she said. The threat is real.
