Russia is fixing the shortcomings of a powerful bomb: it could cause even more difficulties for the Ukrainians in the war Business

These shortcomings include the module’s inability to handle the mass and inertial characteristics of the three-ton FAB-3000 bomb, which makes strikes extremely inaccurate.

This problem was not observed with the smaller FAB-1500 bomb. Therefore, the new UMPK will have larger aerodynamic rudders and more powerful propulsion equipment designed specifically for the FAB-3000.

The anticipated improvements of the upgraded UMPK are expected to enable the FAB-3000 to operate more accurately and efficiently in future operations in Ukraine.

The production of these bombs is relatively inexpensive – each one costs less than 20 thousand. US dollars, making them a cost-effective solution compared to more complex precision-guided munitions such as cruise missiles. By adapting existing bombs, Russia can use its stockpiles of Soviet-era munitions, extend their useful life and reduce waste.

Despite their effectiveness, operational problems were noted, such as occasional misfires and malfunctions.

Ukrainian forces already face significant challenges in combating these advanced bombs due to their greater range and accuracy.
