The most important military development in recent weeks in the Ukraine crisis has been the transfer of Russian troops to neighboring Belarus. This created the possibility of a large-scale attack on Ukraine from the north. These events overshadowed the movements on the long southern flank of Ukraine – in the Black Sea, on the Crimean peninsula and in the Russian border provinces to the east of it.
