Moscow. May 30. INTERFAX.RU – Ambassador of Finland in Moscow Antti Helanterya has been informed regarding the decision of the Russian side to reduce the mutual consular presence of the Russian Federation and Finland, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.
The department said that Helantere was informed that the Russian side had decided to close the office of the Russian Embassy in Lappeenranta from July 1. At the same time, the Finnish side was informed regarding the withdrawal from the same date of consent to the activities of the Petrozavodsk and Murmansk branches of the Consulate General of Finland in St. Petersburg, which had been functioning since the early 1990s.
The head of the Finnish diplomatic mission was presented with a corresponding note from the Russian Foreign Ministry.
On Smolenskaya Square, it was noted that under the current conditions, “including the ban imposed by the Finnish authorities from the fall of 2022 on entry into the country on Schengen tourist visas and the termination of their issuance, the Russian side at this stage decided to reduce the mutual consular presence with Finland, since it does not correspond to the current level of Russian-Finnish relations.”
“Responsibility for the current situation lies entirely with the Finnish side,” the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed.
