Russia convenes Security Council over US biological weapons in Ukraine | The World | D.W.

Russia requested an extraordinary meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss this Friday (03.11.2022) what it called “the biological military activities of the United States on the territory of Ukraine.”

The Council, which had no scheduled activity on Friday, was summoned extraordinarily to meet at 10 in the morning (15:00 GMT) with this single item on the agenda.

On its Twitter account, the Russian mission to the UN anticipated that they have “results of the analysis of documents related to the biological military activities of the United States in Ukraine”, and supported it with a series of studies on changes in behavior of birds and other animals in that country.

The urgent convening of the Council comes amid crossed accusations by Russia and the United States of using biological weapons in Ukraine: yesterday, UN spokesman Stéphane Dujarric referred to Moscow’s accusations and said that the UN is not aware of such use.

“Emergency Disposal”

In recent days, the Russian government has assured that its Army has discovered in Ukraine evidence of an “emergency elimination” of traces, something that points to the existence of an alleged biological-military program developed in Ukraine and financed, according to Moscow, by United States.

The Russian Ministry of Defense spokesman, Igor Konashenkov, assured that employees of these biological laboratories allegedly reported the destruction on February 24 of particularly dangerous pathogens such as plague, anthrax, tularemia, cholera and other deadly diseases.

Also yesterday, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki warned that Russia may be planning to use chemical or biological weapons in Ukraine in response to “false” Russian accusations once morest Washington.

And today Psaki herself recalled that Russia “has a large program of biological and chemical weapons” and a “history of inventing lies.”
