Russia’s Defense Ministry confirmed on Tuesday that it had shot down a US long-range GLSDB missile, in the first confirmation that the weapons had been delivered to Ukraine, which it considers necessary to launch a counterattack it is preparing for.

The ministry said in a statement regarding these missiles, which have a range of 150 kilometers, and the United States promised to deliver them to Kiev in early February: “The anti-aircraft defense shot down… 18 HIMARS missiles, and a GLSDB guided missile.”

A spokesman for the Russian Ministry of Defense, Igor Konashenkov, stated that the Russian air defense media intercepted, for the first time since the start of the military operation in Ukraine, a guided missile of the type GLSDB belonging to the Ukrainian armed forces.

The GLSDB, which stands for Ground Launched Small Diameter Bomb, is dubbed a “smart bomb” and was sent by the United States to Ukraine earlier this year.

The Russian military spokesman also referred to the destruction of 12 Ukrainian marches in Zaporizhia district, Donetsk People’s Republic and Kharkov province.

For its part, the Ukrainian armed forces said that Russia launched a total of 15 Iranian-made drones, at dawn on Tuesday, 14 of which were destroyed. The military added: “The risk of air and missile strikes remains high across Ukraine.”

And the Russian news agency “Tass” reported that the Russian forces in Bakhmut took control of the entire industrial area, and the pro-Russian Donetsk authorities confirmed that the Russian forces were advancing in the Avdiivka axis.

In addition, the British Ministry of Defense suggested that Russia lost many of its tanks during the attempt to besiege Avdiivka Donetsk, noting that Russia had achieved only marginal progress there.
