Dmitri Peskov, Kremlin spokesman, assured in an interview with the newspaper Argumenti i fakti that Russia is in a “state of war” because The West interfered in a “special military operation” that his country promoted in Ukraine.
«As soon as this little group met, When the West intervened on the side of Ukraine, for us this became a war. I am convinced of it. And everyone must understand it,” said Peskov, as reported by the EFE news agency.
The spokesman also asserted that his militia continues to fight so that Ukraine is not a threat to its territories, including the Ukrainian regions annexed in September 2022, nor for their citizens.
«For us the most important thing is guarantee the safety of the people in the territories of these regions that are currently de facto occupied by the Kiev regime.
Russia’s position
This is the first time that the Russian Government has expressed itself about the war conflict it has with Ukraine ensuring that they are at war.
However, after being questioned about it by the media, Peskov asserted that in legal terms it continues to be a special military operation. “After the involvement of the collective West (in the conflict), this became a war, but there are no legal changes and ‘de jure’ it is a special military operation,” he said during a press conference.
He added that Russian forces currently have mission to liberate the regions that Moscow keeps partially annexed.
