MOSCOW accused Israel of carrying out “unacceptable” attacks on diplomatic buildings in Syria, following an airstrike destroyed the consulate annex of the Iranian embassy in Damascus.
“On the evening of April 1, the Israeli Air Force attacked the Iranian consulate building in Damascus,” the foreign ministry said in a statement.
“We strongly condemn this unacceptable attack on the Iranian consular mission in Syria.”
Israel did not comment on the reported attack. Syrian and Iranian officials also accused Israel of being behind the attacks.
Moscow declared that attacks on diplomatic buildings were “unacceptable”.
“We call on the Israeli leadership to stop provocative acts of armed violence once morest Syrian territory and neighboring countries,” the ministry said in a statement.
A prominent commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards was reportedly one of eight people killed in the attacks amid worsening regional tensions.
Iranian officials vowed a firm response amid fears of further violence between Israel and Iran’s allies sparked by the war in Gaza. (AFP/Z-3)
