Russia claims to have shot down six US-made missiles

The United States sent long-range missiles of this type to Kyiv as part of a $300 million aid package that President Joe Biden signed in March.

It was long a debated question whether the US should supply Ukraine with weapons with a range of 300 kilometers. These missiles can reach targets deep inside Russia, and there was a time of concern that such systems might lead to an escalation of the war.

The Russian Ministry of Defense did not provide any information on Tuesday regarding where the missiles were allegedly shot down. The Russian-appointed leader of the occupied Crimean peninsula, Sergej Aksynov, said on Tuesday that it was there that the shooting happened.

– Ten unmanned Ukrainian aerial units, six tactical ATACMS missiles produced in the USA and two target-guided flying bombs of the Hammer type, produced in France, were shot down by our air defense, the Russian message says.

The Pentagon has stated that the first shipment from the latest $61 billion aid package will include $1 billion worth of equipment. We are talking regarding air defense batteries, artillery ammunition, tens of Himars rocket launchers and hundreds of thousands of cartridges.
