Key facts
- “That night, the Kanivska and Dnistrovsk HPPs became the conscious targets of the enemy. A terrorist country wants a repeat of the ecological disaster in the Kherson region,” Zelenskyy said in a message on the Telegram channel.
- The President noted that now not only Ukraine is under threat, but also Moldova. “The water will not stop in front of the border posts, just as the Russian war will not stop, if it is not stopped together and in time in Ukraine,” Zelensky emphasized.
- He said that the most effective methods of physical protection and their implementation at other facilities, as well as contracts for the supply of weapons and ammunition, were discussed at Stavka.
- “The need for air defense came to the fore. Due to the intensity of the Russian shelling, it is necessary to replenish supplies more quickly. Instructed to strengthen work with partners. We count on their quick reaction,” the president added.
Kanivska and Dnistrovsk HPPs
Kanivska HPP is located on the floodplain of the right bank of the Dnipro River near the northern outskirts of the city of Kanev and is the second stage of the Dnipro Cascade. The structure of the Kaniv hydroelectric complex includes: a hydroelectric power station building combined with a spillway dam with coupled weirs, right-bank and left-bank earthen dams with a lock and installation site. There are 24 capsule hydro units of the horizontal type installed at the HPP. The capacity of one hydrogenerator is 22 MW.
Dniester HPP located in the south-west of Ukraine on the Dniester River. The main feature of the structures of the Dniester HPP is a channel-type building that receives a relatively high pressure (up to 55 m) with spillways above the engine room. The dam of the Dniester HPP created a reservoir, the maximum depth of which is 54 m. The total installed capacity of the HPP is 702 MW.
