According to Ukrainian reports, Russia attacked the city of Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine with Iranian Shahed drones on Saturday night. Civil infrastructure was also hit, wrote the mayor of Kharkiv, Ihor Terekhov, on his Telegram channel. Terekhov wrote that gasoline caught fire at a gas station and 14 private houses burned. Accordingly, the fire spread over an area of 3,700 square meters.
50 residents of the city, including children, were evacuated. Civil protection is fighting the fire and continuing its search for possible victims, said Terekhow. Media reported explosions in the country’s second largest city. Governor Oleh Synehubow wrote on the short message service Telegram that the Nemyshlianskyi district had been hit. There was also an attack in a café in Velykjy Burluk, east of Kharkiv.
The Ukrainian Air Force also reported drone attacks on Kharkiv on Telegram. Initially nothing was known regarding any deaths or injuries.
Meanwhile, in the Black Sea region of Odessa in the south, at least one person was injured, according to military governor Oleh Kiper. A 44-year-old man was injured in the arm by shrapnel and is being treated in hospital.
Russia, in turn, said it repelled a drone attack over the Bryansk region near the border with Ukraine on Saturday night. The defense ministry in Moscow said early Saturday morning that air defense intercepted and destroyed three Ukrainian drones. Initially nothing was known regarding any damage or casualties. The information might not be independently verified.
Ukraine has been defending itself once morest the Russian war of aggression for almost two years. Both sides repeatedly use drones. However, the damage caused by Ukraine is disproportionate to the destruction that Russia is causing in its neighboring country.
