Russia and Ukraine claim to have shot down each other’s drones

A message on the Telegram social network announced that the Russians had launched 42 Shahed-136/131 drones from the occupied Crimea and Primorsk Akhtarsk in Russia’s Krasnodar Territory. It is also reported that the Russians launched six S-300 missiles from the occupied part of the Kherson region.

At the time, Russia’s Defense Ministry said via Telegram that its air defenses shot down or intercepted nine Ukrainian drones in the Kaluga and Moscow regions on Thursday night.

Debris that fell in Ukraine damaged a dormitory in Odessa. Eleven people, including three children, were injured, Governor Oleh Kiper said.

“For the second night in a row, the Russian devils launched an attack on Odessa,” he added.

Moscow has repeatedly attacked Ukraine’s port infrastructure, including in Odesa, after pulling out of a grain deal this summer that was meant to protect grain exports across the Black Sea.

In Russia, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said one of the drones was shot down near the town of Nar-Fominsk, southwest of the capital.

“According to preliminary data, there was no damage or casualties in the place where the debris fell,” S. Sobianinas reported to Telegram.

He said emergency services were on the scene.

Since the summer, when Ukraine launched a new effort to recapture its territory occupied by the Russians, Kyiv has regularly carried out drone attacks against Russia.
