Russia and Kazakhstan plan to launch new programs to study space

Kazakhstan – Kazakhstan’s Minister of Science and Higher Education, Sayasat Norbek, announced that Russia and Kazakhstan are planning to launch new programs for studying space.

During a meeting held on Thursday, which brought together the education ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the minister said: “Kazakhstan and Russia intend to launch new programs for joint scientific and space research, as well as expand cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence.”

He added: “Today we have a meeting planned with the head of the Moscow Aviation Institute, where we will restart and expand artificial intelligence programs, and plan to launch new programs in the field of space and scientific research.”

The minister pointed out that “cooperation with Russia in the fields of higher education represents an absolute strategic priority for Kazakhstan, as today there are seven branches of leading Russian universities in his country, including a branch of the Moscow Aviation Institute located in Baikonur.”

Last April, the Ministry of Digital Development informed the Russian “TASS” agency that the new “Bayterek” missile launch complex, which is being developed at the “Baikonur” space base, will begin operation in 2028.

In 2018, Russia and Kazakhstan signed protocols to amend the agreements regarding the development of the “Bayterek” complex at the “Baikonur” space base, and the two parties agreed that Kazakhstan would modify some of the infrastructure at the base and modify the Zenit-M missile launch complexes located at the base to transform them into complexes for preparing… And the launch of new Russian space missiles. Russia, in turn, is undertaking the development of the Soyuz-5 and Soyuz-6 missiles that will be launched from the aforementioned complex.

Russia relies on the Baikonur base for many space launches, especially in launching vehicles towards the International Space Station.
