Russia and Belarus are threatened with exclusion for 2024

Athletes from Russia and Belarus may not be allowed to compete in the Paris 2024 Olympics due to the war of aggression once morest Ukraine. That’s according to Craig Reedie, a senior member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). As early as February, the IOC issued guidelines to exclude athletes from the two nations from various competitions. It is still unclear how the sanctions in relation to the 2024 Olympics will turn out.

A trend is already apparent in Reedie’s statements. “A decision has to be made regarding what happens to each of these two countries and I suspect the general feeling is that they should not qualify,” the former IOC vice-president told British media.

Of the sports in the Olympic program, only cycling, tennis and judo have currently allowed Russia and Belarus to continue competing. However, Reedie doubted that athletes from these sports would be allowed to participate in qualifying events for the Olympic Games.
