The Russian Defense Ministry accused the Ukrainian army of deliberately targeting a train station in the city of Kramatorsk, killing 39 people, including four children.
“According to the updated data, the raid on the Kramatorsk train station was carried out by a missile battery of the Ukrainian armed forces from the vicinity of the town of Dopropole, 45 km southwest of the city,” the ministry said, completely denying Moscow’s responsibility for the attack.
Moscow claimed that the goal of the Ukrainian attack “to undermine the mass exit of civilians from the city in order to use them as human shields to defend the positions of the Ukrainian armed forces.”
This station was used to evacuate civilians, according to Ukrainian and Russian reports.
Earlier today, the Ukrainian authorities announced that 39 civilians had been killed, accusing Russia of carrying out a bombing of the Kramatorsak train station, in the east of the country.
“39 civilians, including 4 children, were killed as a result of the Russian bombing,” said Artem Dykhtyarenko, an official in the Ukrainian Security Service.
In a post on his Facebook page, Dikhtyarenko indicated that an investigation had been opened into the incident.
On February 24, Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine, which was followed by angry international reactions and the imposition of “tough” economic and financial sanctions on Moscow.
