Russia: 158 Ukrainian drones shot down

Russia: 158 Ukrainian drones shot down

Two of the drones are said to have been shot down over Moscow and nine around the capital. The vast majority of drones were shot down in regions close to the Ukrainian border, the ministry says.

Forty-six of the drones were over the Kursk region, where Ukraine has sent its forces in recent weeks in the biggest attack on Russian soil since World War II. Drones were also shot down deeper into Russia.

Ukrainian drone strikes have brought the battle far from the front lines into the heart of Russia. Since the beginning of the year, Ukraine has stepped up airstrikes on Russian soil, targeting refineries and oil terminals to slow attacks from Russia.

In Ukraine, eight out of eleven Russian drones were shot down, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.

A Ukrainian civilian was killed and four others wounded in a Russian attack overnight Sunday on the border between the two countries, according to local authorities.

– During the night and morning, the Russians carried out 18 grenade attacks at the border in the Sumy region. 47 explosions were recorded, the authorities wrote on Telegram.

Ukraine’s air force said in a separate statement that it had destroyed eight of eleven Russian drones. The attacks are said to have been aimed at the agricultural sector.

The Sumy region borders Russia’s Kursk region, where Ukrainian forces launched a major offensive on August 6.

Meanwhile, Russian troops continue to push towards the strategic hub of Pokrovsk in eastern Ukraine.

Five people were wounded in the shelling in the northeastern Kharkiv region, a local official said.
