Russell sees two more chances for Mercedes in 2022

George Russell has not yet given up on adding a Formula 1 Grand Prix to his list before the end of this 2022 season, even if he recognizes that this will not be easy.

Mercedes has stood on the top step of a Grand Prix podium at least once in every season in Formula 1 since 2012. And since the start of the hybrid era in 2014, the German automaker’s team has won 14 Grand Prix on average per year.

This 2022 season, marked by the introduction of brand new technical regulations, might however put an end to this long series of successes for the reigning world champions.

George Russell is well aware of this, but he is not giving up yet. He believes that the Singapore and United States Grands Prix in Austin might smile on the Silver Arrows.

“Singapore might be interesting for us, even if historically it is a circuit where Mercedes has always had a little trouble” comments Russell, author of seven podiums in this 2022 season, as many as Charles Leclerc.

“We know that on the street circuits this year we haven’t been very good. Afterwards, you never know when you get to Singapore, this race is so difficult and can be so unpredictable! »

“Otherwise, I would say Austin is probably still our best shot at this year.adds Russell. Austin might be a better track for us given the characteristics of our car, but we’ll have to wait until we get there to be sure. »
