On Saturday, the “Stubai Ultratrail” running event in Tyrol was overshadowed by a fatal fall and then stopped. A 47-year-old participant from the Netherlands collapsed around noon in the area of the Falbesoner Nockalm in the municipality of Neustift in the Stubaital and then fell regarding 30 meters over an embankment, the police reported.
First responders immediately began resuscitation, but the man died on the spot. Because the cause of death might not be determined beyond doubt, the public prosecutor ordered an autopsy, it said.
The competitions were canceled out of respect for the deceased and the family at the decision of the crisis management team, the organizer, the Stubai Tourism Association, announced. The “Stubai Ultratrail” would have led in five different distances up to 3,000 meters, where the goal is on the Stubai Glacier.
