Rumors of political disputes are circulating behind closed doors of Red Bull’s F1 activities.
The 79-year-old Dr Helmut Marko, who was dubbed the late Dietrich Mateschitz’s F1 ‘right-hand man’, is annoyed by the presence of new CEO Oliver Mintzlaff in Saudi Arabia this weekend, as well as in Bahrain.
And Mintzlaff, too, said he was upset when Marko suggested that the 47-year-old German perceived Red Bull as “more than a sugary drink”.
“In any case, I think Mintzlaff will be busy following Manchester,” Helmut Marko smiled at Sky Deutschland as Red Bull-owned German football team RB Leipzig beat Manchester City 7-0 in the Champions League round of 16. I mentioned losing.
Helmut Marko claims that he has already had “several meetings” with Mintzlaff and that their relationship is “in the right direction”.
“You just can’t compare 3 months to 30 years,” Marko said. “It’s a different relationship than it was with Mateschitz, and probably will continue to be.”
“Dietrich Mateschitz knew motorsport inside and out.”
“We talked on a completely different level.”
“But that’s no reason why it can’t work,” Marko said once more of his new partnership with Mintzlaff, adding that his new role would be CEO of Corporate Projects and New Investments.
Oliver Mintzlaff has yet to comment on his relationship with Helmut Marko.
