Two neo-Aquitaine confrontations are being contested this weekend as part of the seventh day of Top 14: Bordeaux-La Rochelle and Pau-Bayonne. Meetings that look promising.
It looks like the Boxing Day posters. And yet, the year 2023 is not over yet. Two neo-Aquitaine derbies, thrilling to say the least, are on the program for the seventh day of Top 14, as was the case last week. Aviron Bayonnais hosts Section Paloise (Saturday, 5 p.m.) while UBB plays in La Rochelle (Sunday, 9 p.m.).
Pau, towards a sixth success?
With the same number of points as Stade Français (22 points), the Section Paloise is at the forefront of the Top 14. The Pau club has never had such a good start to a season in its history in the competition. Winner of Bordeaux last week (20-11), the Palois are riding an excellent dynamic: five victories in a row and one defeat (by one point once morest Castres on the first day). Becoming a serious contender for the top 6, Pau is settling in and gradually gaining a lead over all its competitors. The Section might take even more tomorrow once morest Aviron Bayonnais. Currently 11th with 10 points, the Basques hope to get their heads above water. Unbeaten at home last season, the Bayonnais will try to overthrow the eager and defensively well-applied Palois.
La Rochelle wants to regain its rank
The Rochelais are having a sluggish start to the season. 10th in the ranking with 11 points, valuable successes have already eluded them. Like their confrontation once morest Oyonnax on November 4 (19-17). A little better ranked (8th with 13 points), the Bordelais are looking for stability. Now playing with all of these French internationals, the UBB has everything to overthrow the Maritimes. Except that the yellow and black will have the cheers of their supporters at Marcel-Deflandre. And that the Bordelais are in a critical series to say the least with three defeats in three games and struggling in attack. The points awarded during this match will be valuable for the rest of the season, with regard to the top 6 and the competition.
