Rugby 7s: the Blues win the bronze medal at the Vancouver tournament, Antoine Dupont determining

Antoine Dupont successfully joins the French rugby sevens team. Coach Jérôme Daret’s men met the United States in the small final of the Vancouver tournament and won the bronze medal. They won 42 to 12, thanks in particular to “Toto”, holder, who offered two tries to Theo Forner and Aaron Grandidier before scoring a try himself. This 3rd place is the best result for the French men’s rugby sevens team this season.

Successful integration

Six matches, including two as a starter, is not much, but it is enough to gauge what the 27-year-old Stade Toulousain player can bring to the Olympic discipline. For his teammate from the French team, William Iraguha, this first tournament is promising. “Honestly (Dupont) is a hell of a player, he helps us in all areas of the game. He showed his qualities this weekend”, he declared on the microphone of Rugbypass. Beyond the results, Antoine Dupont proved that he was capable of adapting to this Olympic discipline, both physically and tactically.
The Blues will aim for gold during the next stage of the world rugby sevens circuit in Los Angeles from March 1 to 3.

For its part, the French women’s team led by David Courteix also achieved an excellent performance by losing in the final once morest the New Zealanders (35 to 19) in Vancouver and bringing home the silver medal.
