TRAFFIC. As it announced at the end of the summer, the City of Drummondville replaced the one-way streets on Fradet and Daniel streets with a series of other measures, always with the objective of reducing the speed and flow of traffic. traffic.

The addition of extended speed bumps and all-direction stops and the reduction of speed to 40 km/h in the neighborhood are the biggest changes made. Moreover, a sign at the intersection of Rue Fradet and Boulevard des Chutes notifies motorists of the new speed limit in addition to sending a clear message with a humorous touch. It reads: “Distracted, in a hurry, stressed? Be attentive on public roads. Calm the rabbit in you!”

Several other adjustments have been made, such as the installation of rapidly flashing rectangular lights and the rearrangement of road markings at certain intersections. Finally, as promised, police surveillance will be increased.

The objective, remember, is to reduce traffic flow on local streets and thus encourage motorists to naturally use the collector roads, which are Mercure and Des Chutes boulevards.

In 2019, around sixty residents of Rue Fradet worried about their safety called on the City to find solutions to reduce traffic flow. After carrying out a traffic study, the City implemented the one-way pilot project, which caused discontent among many citizens in the area. They believed that the City was on the wrong track, even though they observed several security problems in the area. They united to demand another solution. A petition was even launched at the end of July this year. Specifically, 75% of industry respondents were against the pilot project setup. Due to a lack of support from the citizens concerned, the City of Drummondville has chosen not to renew the project in its current form and to implement the measures currently in force.
