Jazz Rudy Gobert has been placed on the list of players to submit to the anti-Covid protocol, the Utah Jazz announced Thursday. The French pivot will miss at least the next three matches of his team, all played away.
According to The Athletic, Gobert, 29, had two negative tests on Wednesday, but has since experienced a positive PCR test.
The isolation period for players who test positive for Covid is five days, according to league rules, provided they are asymptomatic and tested twice negative within 24 hours. Gobert, who joins his teammate Joe Ingles in this protocol, will therefore stay at home while his teammates complete a mini road trip leading them to Toronto on Friday, Indiana on Saturday and Detroit on Monday.
He was the first NBA player to test positive
Gobert was the first NBA player to test positive for coronavirus on March 11, 2020, resulting in an immediate suspension from the season.
His absence will be detrimental to Jazz, current 3rd in the Western Conference, because he is perhaps making the best start to the season of his NBA career (15.5 pts, 15.1 rebounds, 2.3 blocks on average).
