**Rudi Vranckx:** after decades covering conflicts and bearing witness to unspeakable tragedies, there’s a sense of weariness, perhaps. But it’s more then that.I fear that the very mechanisms we’ve built to protect humanity, to ensure peace and justice, are at risk. The world seems increasingly fractured, and the rise of new threats is deeply concerning.
**(Host):** You’ve spoken about the risks involved in your profession. Your career has been punctuated by dangerous assignments. Do any particular experiences stand out?
**Rudi Vranckx:** There have been many moments where things could have gone disastrously wrong. I’ve been in situations that tested my courage and resilience. Perhaps the most striking thing isn’t the physical danger but the emotional toll. Witnessing suffering and injustice takes its toll.
