World number one Jannik Sinner was knocked out of the Canadian Open quarter-finals by Russia’s Andrei Rublev.

The world number eight beat the Italian top seed 6-3 1-6 6-2 in a rain-interrupted match in Montreal.

Sinner’s right hip injury, an area the 22-year-old regularly massages, could be a concern when he starts the U.S. Open two weeks later.

“It’s a really great game for me. Jannik is an amazing player and he’s been incredible for two years. I just hope I can fight with him,” the 26-year-old the players said.
