[땡큐뉴스 / 이근우 기자] What will happen to foreign players playing for Russian clubs, including Hwang In-beom (26, FC Rubin Kazan)?
The International Football Players Association (FIFPRO) announced on the 2nd (Korean time), “We have requested the FIFA to revise the contract-related rules so that foreign players belonging to a Russian football club that invaded Ukraine can terminate their contracts without any conditions. demand,” he said.
Earlier, the Russian soccer team and Russian clubs were banned from participating in all international competitions hosted by FIFA and the European Football Federation (UEFA). As a result, foreign players were noticed while the players and coaching staff were inevitably disadvantaged.
In response, ‘FIFPRO’ argued that “the Russian club has 133 foreign players” and insisted that players have the freedom to leave without restrictions.
Hwang In-beom moved to Russia’s Rubin Kazan in August 2020. Of course, Rubin Kazan does not play in UEFA competitions, but the situation is not comfortable.
FIFPRO Director Louis Everard said, “I think this is a reason to terminate the contract without paying compensation to the Russian club in line with the increasingly serious situation. We are currently discussing this issue.”
“Given that the current Russian invasion of Ukraine is a very worrisome situation, we need to give players the freedom to leave Russia,” he added.
Meanwhile, Kim Hoon-ki, secretary general of the Korea Players Association, said, “As Hwang In-beom is playing in the Russian league, we are also taking this issue seriously. Together with FIFPRO and each European Athletes Association, we will do our best to protect the safety of our players. “I send my condolences to the people of Ukraine and sincerely hope that the situation will be resolved peacefully,” he said.
