The evolution of prices in supermarkets continues to fall, for the 4th consecutive month, according to data from the Panier RTL info / Le Soir / SudInfo / Testachats.

Between July 2022 and July 2023, the prices in supermarkets of the 3,000 products observed by Testachats increased by an average of 15.4%, i.e. the level of 7 months ago.

While the decrease in inflation is good news, the price of many products continues to rise. However, the prices of raw materials and energy have been falling on the international market for several months.

It is estimated that a family of 2 spent an average of 531 euros at the supermarket in July. This is only €1 more than for the same basket last month, but still €71 more than a year ago.

“Also this month, we have to see that consumers are not noticing the price cuts internationally in supermarkets”, says Jean-Philippe Ducart, spokesperson for Testachats. “We expect fair prices from the food industry, which incorporate international declines. Especially as consumers are once more at risk of price hikes due to Russia’s cancellation of the cereals agreement “.

The Top 3 price increases:

  1. Carrots: +73.01%
  2. Onions: +57.78%
  3. Ketchup: +43,80%

The Top 3 Price Drops:

  • Pine nuts: -1.78%
