During the last RTL info – Test Achats basket, at the end of January 2023, we mentioned half good news: prices in supermarkets saw their inflation fall for the first time since November 2021, the start of the ” crisis”. Unfortunately, the figures for February 2023, still compared to those of February 2022, are bad: inflation is on the rise once more, with an average price increase in supermarkets, noted by Test Achats, of 19.76% (we were at 18.58% last January…). You read that right: in just 1 year, the average price increase of the 3,000 products tracked by our shopping cart is almost 20%… A full shopping cart that cost €100 in February 2022 now costs €120 in February 2023.
But what increases the most? Every month, it changes, even if there are products that are always at the top (toilet paper or paper towels) or at the bottom of the list (salted peanuts). Carnival obliges, no doubt: the oranges join the ranking! Here is the list of the 20 products that increase the most (between February 2022 and February 2023):
- Fries: +51.26%
- Cauliflower: +49.07%
- Tomato concentrate: +46.34%
- Paper towel: +44.72%
- Roast chicken: +44.35%
- Cucumber: +43.84%
- Paper toilet: +42.71%
- Young Gouda: +41.57%

- Mustard: +34.55%
- Salade iceberg: +33,40%
- Liège waffle: +33.18%

- Oranges: +32,16%
In contrast to this list, there are products whose price has increased very little over one year, or even decreased:

- Salted Peanuts: +1.98%
- Minced pork and veal: -9.63% (Test Achat specifies that this price is strongly influenced by a promotion in certain major retailers)
